Terms of use
These terms cover this website (world.volter.ai) and the Volter World software published from it. They are offered by Volter AI, Inc. ("Volter", "we"). By using the site or the software you agree to them. Questions go to legal@volter.ai.
What Volter World is today
Volter World is open-source software: the volter command and the @volter/* packages on npm (the SDK, the world
runtime, the host and the twins). You install and run it on your own machines or servers. A World runs twins,
stand-ins for the services your app calls, on the machine that runs it; nothing about your app, your World or its
data is sent to Volter.
This site is its documentation: static pages, with no account to create and nothing to sign in to. A hosted Volter World service is not offered today. If one is offered later, it will come with its own terms, and they will say so here before they apply to anyone.
The license of the software
The software is open source. Each package states its license in its package.json (on npm, the license shown on the
package's page): the Apache License 2.0 for most of them, the MIT
license for some. That license, not these terms, governs your use, copying, modification and distribution of the
package, including its warranty disclaimer and limitation of liability. Nothing in these terms narrows the rights
the license grants you.
Reaching real services
A World makes no call to a real vendor unless you configure it to: a root and a credential you provide, and a deploy you run or a policy you set. When you do, your app's changes are performed against that vendor with your credential, under the vendor's own terms, and you are responsible for them: for having the right to use the account, for what is sent, and for what the vendor does with it. Twins model vendors' public APIs; Volter is not affiliated with or endorsed by those vendors, and their names and marks belong to them.
Using this site
You may read, link to and share the site and its documentation. You agree not to use the site for anything unlawful, not to attempt to gain unauthorized access to it or the systems that serve it, and not to disrupt it. The documentation's text and images are part of the Volter World source and may be used under the Apache License 2.0; the Volter name and logos are Volter's marks and are not licensed by it.
No warranty
The site and its content are provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Documentation describes the software as released and may lag or lead it; the software's own behavior and license govern.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Volter will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, arising from your use of the site or its content. Where the law does not allow an exclusion, our liability is limited to the smallest amount it permits. The software's liability terms are those of its license.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The state and federal courts located in Delaware have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, except where the law of your country gives you a right to bring a claim where you live.
Changes
We may change these terms; the date below changes when we do. Changes apply from the date they are posted. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
